Claire Greenhill, MS, LMHC | Independent Home Study Provider
Basic Information, Fees & Links
Home studies are provided to adopting families only. Washington State requires that every adopting family complete a home study before an adoption can be approved. This applies to you if you are:
> Adopting a non-relative newborn > Adopting a non-relative older child > Adopting a relative or someone you know > Adopting a child you know (relative or non-relative) that is already in your care, such as a stepchild or grandchild
If you are ready to start the home study process or talk about your adoption plan, I encourage you to call or e-mail. If you choose to work with Seattle Home Studies, we can schedule your first meeting in my Fremont office, or in your home.
Fees
Fees vary, depending on your location, the type of adoption you plan to pursue and the needs of your family. Based on the average amount of time it takes to complete an initial home study (including home visits, paperwork completion, paperwork review and interviews), a typical full-service home study will cost $950. Costs are usually less for "known" or relative child adoptions. This cost is discussed and decided upon during our first meeting or phone call, before any home study work has begun. We will outline costs in writing, and you may request a copy of this statement.
Post-placement reports and home study updates start at $300. However, if Seattle Home Studies completed your initial home study, your costs for these services will be less.
How long does this take?
A typical home study can be completed in four to six weeks, although much of this depends on how quickly you are able to gather your documents. Even if your office visit(s) and home visit(s) have already taken place, the home study cannot be completed until all documentation has been received.
Who should not apply for services?
I am not an Adoption Advocate, Assistant or Agency. I am unable to help you search for a child to adopt, although a completed home study will be an important and necessary part of your search.
